Renting a Car in Morocco: the 2026 Guide
Everything to know before you rent a car in Morocco, luxury or not: documents, deposit, road rules, tolls, parking near the medinas, safety — and how delivery works with GoTouris.

Is it safe to rent a car and drive in Morocco?
Yes on motorways and main roads, which are mostly in good condition. In big cities (Casablanca, Marrakech), drive defensively: scooters, carts and pedestrians share the road. Avoid long night drives on small rural roads if you can, and take your time on Atlas passes like Tizi n’Tichka. Rather not drive? Rent with a chauffeur.
The documents you need
- A valid driving licence, Moroccan or international; an International Driving Permit is recommended alongside your national licence.
- A passport or national ID in the driver’s name.
- A deposit that depends on the car, confirmed on WhatsApp before handover.
- With a chauffeur, no licence is needed.
Driving rules in Morocco
- Drive on the right.
- Speed limits: 60 km/h in towns (sometimes 40), 100 km/h on main roads, 120 km/h on motorways.
- Police and speed checks are frequent: fines are paid on the spot — ask for the receipt.
- Seat belts are compulsory and phones are banned while driving.
- The alcohol limit is very low: don’t drink and drive.
Tolls, fuel and parking
Motorways (Casablanca–Marrakech–Agadir, Casablanca–Rabat–Tangier) are toll roads, payable in cash or by card. Fuel stations are frequent on main roads; fill up before the Atlas or the south. Medinas are closed to cars: park in a guarded car park (a “gardien” watches the car for a few dirhams).
Renting a luxury or sports car: what’s different
With GoTouris the car comes to you: airport, hotel, riad or villa, in Essaouira, Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir or Tangier, 24/7. It is clean and checked, the deposit depends on the model, and you choose to drive yourself or have a chauffeur. Most requested: Mercedes G 63, Range Rover Sport, Porsche Cayenne, BMW M4 Convertible and Audi RS3.
The right cars

Driving times from Essaouira
- Marrakech: about 2 h 30 (190 km).
- Agadir and Taghazout: about 3 hours along the coast.
- Casablanca: about 4 hours.
- Agafay and the Atlas: day trips from Marrakech.
