Each option in detail

What to
expect.

01

Private transfer

The easiest option, especially with luggage, children or a late flight. Your driver meets you at your Marrakech riad, hotel or at Menara Airport (RAK) with a name sign, and drives you straight to your address in Essaouira. You pay one fixed price per vehicle, not per person, so it often costs about the same as several bus tickets for a family or a group.

02

Bus: CTM and Supratours

Comfortable coaches run between Marrakech and Essaouira several times a day. They leave from the companies’ own stations, so you need a taxi to and from each station, and the trip takes about 3 hours plus the waiting time. Book a day ahead in high season.

03

Shared grand taxi

Grand taxis leave from a taxi station in Marrakech when all seats are taken. It is cheap and fast once you leave, but you share the car with strangers, the seats are tight and there is little space for luggage.

04

Rental car

Driving is simple on the main road, but cars cannot enter the Essaouira medina: you will park outside the walls and carry your bags to your riad. Allow time for police checks and slow trucks on the two-lane sections.
