The airport money problem: plan before you land

After arriving at Marrakech, Casablanca or Essaouira airport, the last thing you want is to delay your onward journey while deciding how to pay the driver. Agreeing the amount, currency and payment method before flying makes the arrival simpler.

Airport ATMs can have queues, transaction limits and fees. Those limits and charges depend on the machine operator, your bank and your card: there is no single 2,000–4,000 MAD withdrawal limit or universal 3–5% fee that applies to every traveller. Check your bank’s overseas withdrawal terms and review the machine’s displayed charges before accepting.

The Moroccan dirham (MAD) is Morocco’s official currency. The Moroccan National Tourist Office lists airport currency exchange and widespread ATMs as options. Card acceptance elsewhere in Morocco does not mean that every taxi accepts cards or foreign cash.

Regulatory note: GoTouris’s stated acceptance policy does not establish regulatory approval. The Office des Changes notice states that virtual-currency transactions violate Moroccan exchange regulations. Confirm applicable requirements before choosing this method; cash and advance bank arrangements are also available.

Keep the price and currency clear

GoTouris agrees the price and currency conversion with you on WhatsApp before departure, with no undisclosed GoTouris exchange fee added at arrival for the agreed booking. Ask for both the MAD fare and the exact foreign-currency amount if you want to compare them.

We do not promise that a quoted conversion beats every bank or exchange office. Your bank, an intermediary or a payment provider may charge its own fee; those charges are separate from the transfer fare. For a group bank payment, confirm who covers fees and when the funds must reach the account.

Why arrange payment instead of relying on a mobile terminal?

Do not assume an in-car card terminal will be available for your ride. A mobile payment can depend on connectivity and card-issuer approval, but that is not evidence that Moroccan terminals generally fail or reject foreign cards.

GoTouris’s approach is to confirm a workable payment method before pickup. You know the amount and currency, and the chauffeur knows what has been agreed. For an advance bank payment, use the beneficiary details supplied directly by the team and keep the receipt.
